The Daily Tea

Literally, my mom drinks this tea every day.

Yesterday, I shared a little about my mother’s cancer journey and how that experience became part of the story behind Rosemary & Cedar Botanicals. What I haven’t really talked about is how many of the products in our shop came directly from things we were dealing with ourselves.

We didn’t start making tea because we wanted pretty blends or because herbal tea was trendy.

We started making it because we were trying to solve problems in our own lives.

That is still how I formulate most of what we make.

Our Blends Are Purpose-First

When I create a tea blend, I am not starting with, What flavors would taste good together?

I’m usually starting with, What am I trying to accomplish with this blend?

Flavor matters, obviously. Nobody wants to drink something that tastes terrible (ask me how the anti-inflammatory formulation started, yuck). But our blends are purpose-first and flavor-second.

Hill Country Calm is a good example.

It contains:

  • Oatstraw

  • Tulsi (Holy Basil)

  • Chamomile

  • Hawthorn

  • Rosemary

  • Licorice Root

I created it for the days when my brain would not turn off and I needed something to help me slow down at the end of the day.

And there were a lot of those days.

A Lot Was Happening at Once

At the time, I was working full time, going to school for my master’s degree, raising kids, managing a household, and then my mother was diagnosed with cancer.

I also became her power of attorney, which meant there was suddenly another layer of appointments, paperwork, decisions, phone calls, research, and worry added to everything else.

I was exhausted, but I couldn’t always sleep.

There were nights when I would lie in bed completely worn out and still have a hundred things running through my head.

There were also plenty of days when I came home from work or one of her appointments and just needed something that told my brain, Okay. The day is done.

That is where Hill Country Calm and Texas Sunset came from.

Hill Country Calm became the tea I reached for when I needed to decompress after a long, stressful day.

Texas Sunset was formulated more specifically around my nighttime routine and those nights when I needed help settling down and getting ready for sleep.

They weren’t products I created because I wanted to open a shop and add another tea.

I made them because I was using them.

My Mom’s Blends Came From Her Needs

My mom drinks tea every day too, but her blends are a little different.

She also has a heart condition, which means there are herbs and blends that are not appropriate for her. That is something I take seriously, and it is one of the reasons I don’t believe herbal products should be treated like they are automatically right for everyone just because they are “natural.”

Her needs are actually what led to some of our other blends.

Our Antioxidant Blend was created with her in mind.

Our Wellness Blend came from me trying to formulate something she could drink regularly that incorporated nourishing herbs into her daily routine.

So when I say these products came out of our real lives, I mean that literally.

My mom actually drinks them.

I actually drink them.

Most of the things in the shop started in our kitchen because one of us was looking for something specific.

The Herbal Compress Came After Her Surgery

The Soothe & Settle Herbal Compress has a similar story.

After my mother had surgery to remove her cancer, she developed a horrible rash.

It kept spreading, and the things she had already tried were not giving her much relief. So I started researching herbs traditionally used for irritated and sensitive skin and put together a simple herbal compress.

That blend became Soothe & Settle.

It contains:

  • Calendula

  • Chamomile

  • Plantain

  • Yarrow

  • Rose Petals

We steeped the herbs and used the liquid as a compress on her skin.

Within about three days, we noticed a huge difference in the appearance of her skin.

That was never supposed to be a product.

It was something I put together because my mother was uncomfortable and I wanted to see if there was something gentle we could add to her skin-care routine.

Now we both keep it around.

If my skin is irritated, dry, or just angry about something, it is one of the first things I reach for.

The Calendula Products Came From My Own Skin Issues

The calendula products came from my own experience.

I’ve shared before that I struggled with eczema for years.

I tried so many products and never felt like I was really getting anywhere. Eventually, I started learning more about calendula and experimenting with infused oils and simple herbal skin products.

The Calendula-Infused Oil and Calendula Salve became two things I consistently reached for when my skin was dry and irritated.

And, again, they weren’t originally made because I sat down and decided I needed another product to sell.

I made them for myself.

They worked well for my routine; I kept making them, other people started using them, and eventually they became one of the flagship products when we created Rosemary & Cedar.

That Is Pretty Much How This Business Got Started

Honestly, that is the pattern behind a lot of Rosemary & Cedar Botanicals.

Something happens.

One of us needs something.

I start researching.

I start formulating.

I test different versions.

We use it.

And if it becomes something we keep reaching for, it may eventually make its way into the shop.

That is how we ended up with teas for stress and nighttime routines.

It is how we ended up with an herbal compress.

It is how the calendula oil and salve became staples.

And it is why I say our products are created with a purpose.

They weren’t developed just to fill space on a shelf.

They came from actual problems, actual routines, and actual things happening in our lives.

Herbal Wellness Can Be Simple

One thing this entire experience has taught me is that using herbs does not have to be complicated.

It doesn’t have to mean replacing modern medicine, either.

My mother had cancer. She had surgery. She had doctors.

Herbs were never a substitute for that.

For us, they were another way to support ourselves through everything else that was happening.

Sometimes that looked like making tea at the end of a long day.

Sometimes it meant using an herbal compress when her skin was irritated.

Sometimes it was me putting calendula oil on my skin.

Sometimes it was just having a routine that forced me to stop for five minutes.

That is really what botanical wellness looks like in our house.

It is not perfect.

It is not complicated.

It is just another tool we use to take care of ourselves.

Why I Share All of This

I think it is easy to see a finished product on a website and assume someone sat down and decided, This would sell well.

That really isn’t how most of our products happened.

There is a REAL story behind them.

There was a reason I researched those herbs.

There was a reason I made that first batch.

There was usually someone in my house who needed it.

Rosemary & Cedar Botanicals grew out of one of the hardest periods of my life, but it also grew out of everything I learned during that time.

I learned a lot about herbs.

I learned a lot about slowing down.

I learned that “natural” does not automatically mean appropriate for everyone.

I learned that sometimes the simplest things become the things you use the most.

And I learned that if something I created for my own family can also become useful to someone else, then maybe there is something worth sharing there.

That is really the heart of this business.

We make things we actually use.

We formulate with a reason.

And we keep it practical.

Like many women, I wear a lot of hats. I am a business professional, a mother, a caregiver, a lifelong learner, and someone who has spent years balancing the demands of work, family, and everyday life.

Throughout some of the most challenging seasons of my life, I found myself drawn back to nature. Whether hiking a trail through a Texas state park, spending time outdoors, or simply slowing down long enough to appreciate the beauty of the natural world, I discovered something that modern life often makes us forget: nature has a remarkable way of helping us reconnect with ourselves.

That connection inspired Rosemary & Cedar Botanicals.

Named after two of my favorite botanicals, rosemary and cedar, our products are created with a deep appreciation for the plants, landscapes, and wild places that bring comfort, clarity, and restoration. We believe wellness doesn't have to be complicated. Small daily rituals can create meaningful moments of calm, resilience, and balance.

Our goal is simple: to create thoughtfully crafted botanical products that help support your wellness journey while encouraging a deeper connection to nature and the rhythms of everyday life.

Whether you're navigating a busy career, caring for loved ones, managing life's demands, or simply looking for ways to slow down and recharge, we're honored to be part of your journey.
